Áine
Parkes
is a girl who sings both her own
songs and her own personal favourite songs by other songwriters.
Her father Jimmie is from
Dungannon, County Tyrone and her mother
Mary is from Newry, County Down
where Áine was born. She grew up in Carlow with her older
siblings Deirdre, Ciarán and
Feargal. She now lives
in Athenry, a small 13th
century, walled town in County Galway in the west of Ireland.
Áine
is blessed with a pure, angelic, musical voice. She writes very
personal lyrics and fuses them with melodic chord sequences to
create songs that stay with you once you have heard them.
In her live performances, she
mixes her own songs with beautiful songs from writers such as
Lennon & McCartney, Ray Davies, Jackie
DeShannon, John D. Loudermilk, Jewel, Marianne Faithfull, Tori
Amos, Mama Cass Elliott, Mark Knopfler, Joni Mitchell, Dido
and others.
She plays guitar, piano and
tin-whistle and has an impressive musical pedigree, her mother
Mary being a sister of Tommy Sands and
The Sands Family. She also draws, paints and writes
poetry. She and her daughter Lana, also a promising young
artist, are very fond of animals and have a family of cats named
Jaffa, Lucy, Dot, Ella and
Flash.
Áine
is the regular support act for rock/blues band
Húsh
and her gentle songs
contrast with and compliment very well their high voltage music.
She is an active member of
Athenry Musical Society and has played parts in
Sugar and
My Fair Lady. She is interested in the paranormal,
psychic phenomana, astrology and alternative therapies and she
also reads tarot cards.
Try and get to hear
Áine
before everyone else
gets there first. |
