Caroline Rippy (USA)

Where are you based Caroline? San Antonio, Texas (USA)

What bass do you play? I bounce back & forth between my Fender Mustang 3/4 & Washburn

What's your main gigging amp? Behringher UltraBass Head & 15' Cab

What's your (main) band? Left Hand Lucy & Second To None.. both are equally important

What other bands have you been a member of? Mostly punk / pop punk influenced bands.

Do you have other basses? I started playing a Memphis 1/2 Scale

Fingers, plectrum or both? Fingers only. Finger Picking All The Way!

Did you start playing guitar or bass first? Bass but I am still interested in learning how to play the guitar. I think it will help define my bass skills.

What's your opinion on basses with more than 4 strings? I have only played on a 4-string and wouldn't mind expanding my horizons. actually, though a four string, I really want to move on to the upright bass.

What track/album did you learn bass to? Weezer

Do you come from a musical family? Yes. My grandfather, Martin Macias, was acknowledged for his hand crafted Guitars and Bajo Sextos. He also played them both along with he French Horn.

Are your siblings and/or parents involved in music? Many of my siblings have also gone on to pursue music. My youngest brother plays guitar & drums, my sister is a masterful pianist and my eldest brother now walks the path my grandfather once did by continuing on his legacy & his craft.

If forming your ideal live band, what instruments would you have with you onstage? Ideally I would love to not only include Guitar, Drum & Bass but also include my Flute, some Fiddle & Keyboards.

Do you see the bass as a solo instrument? I have seen it done before by the most marvelous JUCIFER. My brother plays the Bajo Sexto which is a 12 string Bass Guitar and he plays it like a dream. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it.

Apart from your own projects, have you played recording sessions with other artistes? No, this will be my first experience recording.

Have you ever been to Ireland?  No, I wish. While in college I went overseas with an exchange program. Some of my friends were able to make that trip. Due to finances, I chose to visit the exquisite Paris, France.

What other instrument would you like to play? I can play the Flute, however, since I was young I have always wanted to play Oboe & eventually break into the Upright Bass.

If you could be taken to a concert anywhere on earth tonight, who would you want to see live? Tom Petty

What CD are you listening to most these days? Concrete Blonde (see Johnette Napolitana interview - Ed.) and The Eagles

What are your ambitions, musically and personally? The main thing I always remind my band mates and sometimes even myself, is that this is fun & when it stops being fun you lose heart. So I just want to enjoy myself as a musician.

Do you have a pet? I do actually, two adorable little doggies Pepper (Italian Greyhound) and Chiwee (Chihuahua / Weenie - Daschaund)

Do you write/compose? I have written a bit but, I feel its a growing process.

Do you have a day-job or do you play professionally? I work as a Graphic Artist / Art Director.

Give one piece of “golden” advice to someone who has just bought their first bass? Play what you love and don't give up if you get frustrated, you'd be surprised what you can accomplish in weeks, months or years.

Have you any “bassist” jokes to share? Ha Ha, no, but I look forward to hearing some.
