What’s your full name?
Kim Alexandra Nicholl - just lovely

Where are you based Kim?
I'm based in Northern Ireland in a city called Derry.
When did you first take a bass in
your hands? I started playing
bass when I was about 16 having previously played guitar for 2 years.
What attracted you to playing
bass? I'm not really sure... I
always wanted to play bass and begged my mum and dad to let me have one
but they said I would probably get bored of it and suggested I get a more
tuneful instrument like guitar.
Did you play any other
instrument? I also played violin
for 5 years.
Can you remember the first song
you ever learned on bass?
Hysteria by Muse.. I was always a bit ambitious!
What was your very first public
performance? My very first
performance playing bass was at this thing called the Instinct festival in
a place called The Nerve Centre in Derry. It's were I met 2 members of my
current band.
What’s your current band?
Tainted Perfection.
What’s your main bass?
Fender Jazz Bass, white with a black scratchplate and a rosewood board.
Fingers, plectrum or both?
I use both depending on the songs
Have you played double (upright)
or acoustic bass? Yeah, I've had
a go at playing the double bass... it's quite fun isn't it!
What type of music do you play?
I mostly play popular rock as
that's the genre of my band.
Who do you listen to when you’re
not playing? I listen alot to
U2, The Stone Roses, Coldplay, The Magic Numbers and Idlewild. Really a
mix of things.
Have you recorded/released any
CDs? Yes, with my current band.
We released an EP in April 2005 called "Needs a Question Mark". It is
currently available. We are also now working on our next release.
What was your best gig/venue
ever? In my opinion one of our
best gigs has to be The Regional Derry final of the Global Battle of the
Bands (http://www.gbob.com) in The Delcroix, where we got through to the
all Ireland Finals which are yet to be played. One of my favourite venues,
where you always have a great gig is the Bound for Boston in Derry.
What’s your favourite album/CD?
U2 - Acthung Baby
Do you play/own any other
instruments? Not really, I give
my guitars the odd strum now and again.
What’s your opinion on basses
with more than 4 strings?
slightly pointless... sure you're halfway there to playing the guitar with
one of them.
What are your ambitions?
My ambitions are to actually achieve success with my band Tainted
Perfection... and if that doesn't work out I'm going to become a
Biomedical Scientist... (shocking I know!)
