Elea Logan (Australia)
Elea Logan plays bass in all-girl band Gazoonga Attack.  You can usually find them in a sleazy bar somewhere in Australia, challenging the bar flies to arm-wrestling contests.  In her other band The Tremors she switched between organ and bass, until they got a full time bass player.  Elea thinks bass players are the hottest member of any band.

Where are you based Elea? Brisbane, Australia.

When did you first take a bass in your hands? This question makes it sound like I have sex with my bass. Which I don't. I first played bass when I was 14.

What attracted you to playing bass? I was really shit at guitar.

Did you play any other instrument before you started playing bass? Piano, trumpet, guitar.

Can you remember the first song you ever learned on bass? A Night Like This - The Cure.

What was your very first public performance? Terminus Hotel, Brisbane.

What’s your current band? Gazoonga Attack.

What’s your main bass? Ernie Ball SUB - I can't afford a real one.

Body colour/wood? matt black.

Neck/fingerboard? Don't know what you're asking here.

What strings to you like best? I just get the cheapest ones that are on sale.

What is your backline bass amp setup? I have a really fucked Hartke amp that sounded shit until it half blew up - then it sounded great. But then it fully blew up and stopped working. Then some idiots bought me a Behringer - I'm sure that's not the correct spelling, and probably not even the correct name. It sounds terrible so I try to use someone else's GK as much as I can. My favourite amp is a bass practise amp someone left at my house when I was 16. It's about 30cm tall, and only has an on switch and a volume knob. It's half blown up and so it has this great distortion. I'm trying not to play it until I record next, coz I don't want it to fully blow up. It just sounds so good.

Fingers, plectrum or both? Both, but not at the same time. (I was waiting for some smartass to say that - Ed.)

If plectrum, which ones? The big triangle orange ones.

What type of music do you play? Punk rock.

Who do you listen to when you’re not playing? Fugazi, Ramones, Rocket From The Crypt, McLusky

Have you recorded/released any CDs? Your Girlfriend Is Shit (2003), Sex Nerd (2004).

What was your best gig/venue ever? I love this tiny bar in Brisbane called Rics. It only fits 50 people so they have to be right in front of you, and it's really hard for them to move away once the band has started.

What was your worst moment onstage? I fall over all the time.

What’s your favourite album/CD? McLusky Do Dallas

Do you own any other instruments? I collect vintage keyboards and toy keyboards/pianos, I have an electric piano, a few guitars, and a trumpet.

Do you sing? Try to.

What's the story about your guitar-strap? I have a leapord print strap that got nicked off me once when I jumped into the crowd at a show, but then I complained about it on the internet and they posted it back to me!

Do you boil your bass strings? No, I think that's a myth.

Did you ever perform onstage without your bass? I also play organ in a band called The Tremors.

What’s your opinion on basses with more than 4 strings? They're fine if you're gonna actually play all those strings.

Did you ever have a famous person in your audience? I'm sure they were just trying to get away from our stage at a festival or something....

What are your ambitions? To play as much as possible.

Do you have a website? Yes we do (see Links page - Ed.)
