Gitti Constanze Lindner, what first attracted you to playing bass? I was married to the bass player of the 360's from Boston, and when we met he asked me if I wanted to start a band with him....I was 25 and had never picked up a bass in my life, but said yes. We started a band, the Leather Cadavers, and I was the bass player! I literally learned song by song, and by the time I joined The Skirts, had managed to learn to play.

Where are you based? Sacramento, CA, U.S.

Did you play any other instrument before you started playing bass? I played a little piano and had played violin for a while as a little girl.

Can you remember the first piece you ever learned on bass? Yup, the Leather Cadavers theme song, "Leather Cadaver."

What was your very first public performance? The Halloween show at Old Ironsides in Sacramento, 1996 with The Leather Cadavers.... it was a theme show, so we did Iggy Pop & Bowie songs.

What’s your current band? The Skirts

What’s your main bass? A black BC Rich Warlock

What strings to you like best? GHS

What is your backline bass amp setup? Ampeg 8x10 cab (the refrigerator!), Gallien Kruger head

Fingers, pick or both? Fender heavy pick

What type of music do you play? pop rock - getting heavier each album. I'm working on a new project, doom metal.

Who do you listen to when you’re not playing? Lately, My Dying Bride, Opeth, Type O Negative....kind of obsessed with them.

Have you recorded/released any CDs? Yes. I was on The Skirts last two albums that were released on Black Liner Records, "Take Off" and "Smashing the Sky". The first album, "Look Up" had a different line-up. We just recorded a new album this last year but it hasn't been released yet...We're also on two X-Box games, Amped 1 & 2.

What was your best gig/venue ever? Best show was probably one of the summer in the park Summer Sammies shows....there were probably close to 2000 or so people there and it was a perfect summer evening.

What was your worst moment onstage? Blanking on a new song about halfway through - I just totally blanked and couldn't play a lick further! A bunch of guys came onstage to check out my amp because they thought there was something wrong with the gear....I was fine with letting people think that... ha!

Were you ever on a TV show? Yes, Good Morning Sacramento, the morning of the Sammies, I think it was 2001? We won a Sammy that year and played a couple of songs, acoustic, on the show.

Did you ever make the cover of a magazine? No, sadly

What’s your favourite album/CD? Type O Negative, Bloody Kisses

Do you play/own any other instruments? old standup piano

Do you sing? I try....and have sung in bands before, but I'm definitely not great....

Have you ever performed onstage without your bass? Yes....The Skirts like to perform acapella sometimes....mostly Prince songs

Have you played outside of the USA? no

What’s your opinion on basses with more than 4 strings? I think they're awesome, but my little fingers could never play it!

What do you feel is the bass-players function in a band? Keep the rhythm and tempo with the drummer....we're the "heartbeat".

Did you ever have a famous person in your audience? We played with Kevin Bacon's band (a very odd man, that one)....and a show with Kathy Valentine from the Go Go's..... I don't know if we have actually had famous people in the audience!

What are your ambitions? To be an interior designer and travel the world.
