Dawn Laureen (USA)

Where are you based Dawn? Silver Lake aka Los Angeles, California

When did you first take a bass in your hands? A long time ago in my 20s

What attracted you to playing bass? Numerous things...one, I was walking by the Whisky A-Go-Go and could hear this band playing outside the door...and they were AWFUL! I thought..I can play better than that! then the apartment building I
lived in was swarming with guitarists. My roommate sold me a bass and I thought...how hard can it be? 4 strings should be easier to handle than 6! Arthur Killer Kane (RIP) of the New York Dolls showed me how to tune up my bass and a few notes.

Did you play any other instrument before you started playing bass?
Yes. I picked out songs by ear on an organ.

Can you remember the first song you ever learned on bass? Green Onions...what else?

What was your very first public performance? It was at the Alligator Lounge with PINK SABBATH. We opened up for
Honk If Your'e Horny, Pleasant Gehman's band.

What's your current band? The Eyeshadows and a side project with some amazing players called Band Camp

What's your main bass? Fender P bass

Body colour? Natural wood

Neck/fingerboard? Rosewood

What strings to you like best? Ones that don't break. I've broken a lotta E strings.

What is your backline bass amp setup? Gallien Kruger 2x10 combo amp with a 15" KK Audio cabinet.

Fingers, plectrum or both? Fingers, mainly hard pick.

What type of music do you play? Pop punk. Abstract noise.

Who do you listen to when you're not playing? Link Wray, Sonic Youth, The Cult, Stooges, Ramones.

Have you recorded/released any CDs? Yes - The Eyeshadows. You can get if off our website or listen to 3 songs on our myspace address.

What was your best gig/venue ever? Opening up for Concrete Blonde and X at the Palladium (now called the Avalon)

What was your worst moment onstage? My cord getting disconnected from my effects pedal on the first song at
the Troubadour during a showcase!

Do you own any other instruments? Yes, harpsicord, guitars, drum kit.

Do you sing? Yes.

Did you ever perform onstage without your bass? No.

What's your opinion on basses with more than 4 strings? Why not?

What do you feel is the bass-players function in a band? Being part of the band, keeping the foundation consistent with the drummer. Bass and drums = foundation of the band.

Did you ever have a famous person in your audience? Yes. Frank Infante (guitarist of Blondie), Nigel Harrison (bassist of Blondie), Clem Burke (drummer of Blondie), Arthur Kane (Bassist for The New York Dolls), Candy Del Mar (bassist of the Cramps), Tony Sales (bassist for Tin Machine), Taime Down (singer of Faster Pussycat)

What are your ambitions? I have too many ambitions to list...I want to write a hit song, record
more songs with Geza X, travel, and keep in mind what life is all about - LIVING!

Anything else.... yup - LUV AND KITTY KIZZES!
