Jennifer Nicole Kamps, where are you based? Oakland, California, USA

When did you first take a bass in your hands? Probably when I was about 18 or so

What attracted you to playing bass? I guess cause it seemed like everyone played guitar, I wanted to play the bass.

Did you play any other instrument before you started playing bass? I played the violin and clarinet in grade school, but that's it!

Can you remember the first song you ever learned on bass? I think it was "Stand By Me"

What was your very first public performance? I played Sandra Dee in a Summer Camp play of Grease. My first performance with my bass was at the Aptos Club in Santa Cruz with my old band.

What’s your current band? Inspect Her Gadget (IHG)

What’s your main bass? I have a Daisy Rock Bass (Rock Candy in Atomic Pink w/ sparkles). I also have a Fender P-Bass.

What is your backline bass amp setup? Right now I'm borrowing a friends Crate amp, cause I guess I played too loud and blew the power amp in my SWR Workingmans (oops!)

Fingers, plectrum or both? Plectrum, but I can play with fingers if needed (if I drop my pick)

Which picks? I use the big stubby (the thicker the better)

What type of music do you play? Punk/Rock

Who do you listen to when you’re not playing? The Bouncing Souls, Descendents, Sleater-Kinney, Dick Dale, Go-Go's, Ramones,....I could go on forever.

Have you recorded/released any CDs? Inspect Her Gadget's "Look Harder" EP

What was your best gig/venue ever? I really enjoyed playing the Warped Tour this Summer. The days were long (and hot), but it was awesome being around so many killer bands playing in one place.

What was your worst moment onstage? I'd have to say at one show, where I was sick as a dog with the flu. I hopped myself up on tons of Dayquil and Red Bull to stay awake. I was so out of it, it was like I was dreaming. I rocked pretty hard that night though!

Do you own any other instruments? a tambourine, a bongo drum, and I have a guitar but I don't play it... It was Courtney Love's that she threw out at a show like 10 years ago or something (I caught it)

Do you sing? Yes, just backup in IHG, but I love to sing in my car and Karaoke!

Have you played outside your own country? No, I wish...

What’s your opinion on basses with more than 4 strings? Awesome, although I haven't learned to play more than a 4 string...props to those that do!

What do you feel is the bass-players function in a band? I guess that depends on the band, but mainly to lock in the with the drummer and put down the foundation of the song (the glue that binds us).

What are your ambitions? To continue to grow as a musician and with my band. The more we play together the better we become as a band and as our music is getting more and more amazing to me by the day.
