.........

Kate Harrison hails from Fredericton New Brunswick and rocks out with The Dirt Track Dates.

--------------------------------------------

Kate Harrison, welcome to BassGirls.Com, where are you based? Fredericton, Canada

At what age did you first take a bass in your hands?
I think I was about 13.

What attracted you to playing bass? I loved the feel of it, and the heavy sound. Plus I had tried playing guitar and totally sucked at it.

Did you play any other instrument before you started playing bass? Piano for a bit when I was a kid, tenor saxophone in school band and screwing around with drums.

Can you remember the first piece you ever learned on bass? Pretend We're Dead by L7

What was your very first band? A silly hardcore band called Fun With Chainsaw.

What other bands were you a member of? A riot girl band Conniption Fit and a pop group called Queencab.

What's your current band? Right now I'm playing in a rock/punk band called The Dirt Track Dates and am having a blast.

What is your ideal line-up for a band? Drums, two guitars, bass, vocals.

What's your main bass? I have an American-made Ernie Ball Musicman Sub. It rocks.

Have you a preference for active or passive electronics? I prefer passive but my bass now has an active pickup so I'm getting used to it and remembering to have spare batteries on hand.

What type or brand of strings to you like best? D'Addario are great for their price

How often would you change your strings? I hate the sound of new strings, so I go as long as possible without changing them.

What is your backline bass amp setup? I use a Yorkville XS-400T combo amp with a tube drive. Its a great work horse, but heavy as hell.

Fingers, pick or both? I had always played with my fingers until I joined The Dates.....for fasters songs I prefer the chunky sound of a pick.

Have you played double (upright) or acoustic bass? Never. I'm always amazed watching someone play upright, the sound is wicked.

What type of music do you play? Rock And Roll.....punk rock.

Who do you listen to when you're not playing? Just about everything except mainstream radio pop junk. I love 80's rock....Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, the Cult......I play a pretty wicked air guitar to Poison.

Have you recorded/released any CDs? Yes, the Dates released a demo called "Luxury Model" last April and we're going to be featured on a German comp by ZCM records. Also hoping to put out a full length in 2006.

What was your worst moment onstage? Were were opening for Bionic, and I had the flu....I was on stage with a vomit bag, Kleenex and could hardly stand up.

Do you have a day-job outside of the band? Yes, I hate it!

What other instrument would you most like to play? Drums

What was the best concert you were ever at? Motorhead

Do you sing? Hell no. (a few yells for back ups once in a awhile)

Do you write/compose? Yes.

Did you come from a musical family? There was always instruments in my house growing up....piano, drums, guitar, you name it
